About Us

Walden Korea, a 501(c)(3) entity, stands at the forefront of academic inquiry and educational initiatives, focusing on revisiting and healing the wounds inflicted by the Jeju 4.3 Incident. This traumatic historical event, which resulted in the loss of over 30,000 civilian lives in South Korea, marks a pivotal moment in the onset of the Cold War in Northeast Asia. Our organization is dedicated to conducting research and educational activities aimed at addressing the long-lasting effects of historical collective traumas, such as wars and genocides, and exploring their persistent influence on successive generations.

Inspired by the transformative philosophies of Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., and Henry David Thoreau, whose advocacies for non-violent resistance significantly contributed to the shaping of democratic ideals in Korea, Walden Korea is committed to promoting academic and cultural exchanges that advance human rights, peace, and environmental sustainability.

Our initiatives are multifaceted and include:

  • Providing educational insights into the historical and spiritual essence of the Jeju 4.3 Incident.

  • Commemorating the anniversary of the Jeju April 3rd Incident, a solemn remembrance of the lives lost and a pledge towards continued healing and reconciliation.

  • Promoting an understanding and appreciation of Korean culture and arts as mediums of healing and expression.

  • Developing and disseminating environmental education resources, reinforcing our dedication to ecological preservation, and advocating for sustainable practices within communities.

  • Publishing the "Walden Korea International Journal," a scholarly platform for disseminating research findings and fostering academic dialogue.

  • Organizing international forums that serve as platforms for scholarly exchange and public advocacy on pertinent issues.

At its core, Walden Korea endeavors to nurture a global community of informed, engaged, and environmentally conscious citizens. Through the power of education and dialogue, we are dedicated to forging a world that epitomizes equality and harmony.
