The History You Never Heard [Series]

‘The History You Never Heard’ is a Walden Korea long-term project informing the American public of the truth of the 1948 Jeju 4.3 Uprising and Massacre in South Korea and the horrors of state violence. The project consists of seminars and academic programs held across the United States as well as publications, raising awareness on state crimes and the importance of truth, justice, and reconciliation.
This lecture series is a unique concept in which ordinary Americans take on the role of lecturer and introduce various aspects of the Jeju Massacre to the local community. Lecturers assume the title of “Truth Storyteller” after attending the Jeju 4.3 study group and learning about the history of post-liberation Korea and the Jeju 4.3 Massacre. This is because a good understanding of Korea's modern history before and after liberation in 1945 would allow a basic foundational knowledge and help one to objectively approach the complex history, including the U.S. role in partitioning Korea and governing southern Korea.
